Our OSUK Journey – From Rayagada to the UK
Born and raised in Rayagada, Odisha, my life took a beautiful turn in 1992 during an office trip to Kolkata, where I met a remarkable young woman — Neera Tiwari. A few years later, in 1996, we moved to the United Kingdom, and today, we are proud parents to two wonderful children: Avantika and Arnav.
Although we’ve lived in the UK for over 28 years, it wasn’t until OSUK Harrow 2023 that we attended our very first reunion. The experience was nothing short of incredible — the culture, the connections, the energy. We instantly knew this was something we wanted to be part of moving forward. Since then, we’ve made a promise to not only attend future reunions, but also to contribute actively to this incredible 46-year-old organisation in any way we can.
We’re well aware that putting together an event of this magnitude is no small feat. Our heartfelt thanks go to the elected Executive Committee and all the volunteers whose tireless work makes these gatherings so special.
And finally, a warm and sincere thank you to the unsung heroes — those who support quietly and selflessly behind the scenes. Your efforts do not go unnoticed.
We feel grateful to be part of this vibrant and ever-growing OSUK family.
About Maidenhead
Maidenhead, nestled on the River Thames in Berkshire, is a historic market town with roots dating back to the 13th century. Once known as Maiden Hythe (“new wharf”), it flourished as a key stop on the old coaching route between London and the West Country.
The arrival of the Great Western Railway in the 1830s transformed it into a thriving Victorian commuter town. The iconic Maidenhead Railway Bridge, designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, remains a striking symbol of 19th-century engineering.
Today, Maidenhead blends rich heritage with modern innovation. Part of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, it has become a hub for business and technology while preserving its charm through riverside walks, historic pubs, and a strong community spirit.
Its unique mix of tradition and progress makes Maidenhead an ideal location for the 46th annual Odisha Society of the United Kingdom (OSUK) convention—a celebration of culture, connection, and community in the heart of the Thames Valley.
